News Sources for Kids

If your kids are interested in the News, but not quite ready to watch the network evening news, or read through the Newspaper - here are two websites that offer the news in a more 'kid friendly' manner!

NewsClues   http://www.thenewsclues.com/

This website, featured in a recent San Jose Mercury News article, (Story on Newsclues) was created by two Cupertino High School students.  The website offers a review of current news topics with choices for how detailed the information is presented. For example, the user can choose to look at a K-1 version, 2-3, or 4-5, depending on the level and depth of information desired.    Articles are followed with 'check for understanding' questions to make sure the reader is grasping key concepts and facts. The website also provides advanced, appropriate vocabulary for the different grade levels and provides definitions for these words.

A second site is KidSenz  http://www.kidsenz.com/#&panel1-4.

This website, also from local folks, offers video presentations with coverage of many current events and topics.  It covers both World News and US News with comprehensive story background, and features animated Avatars as news reporters.
