This
year's Legislative Round Table will explore three topics:
- Adequate Funding: Even with the Prop 30 taxes, our
funding is below average, and California's schools rank
in the bottom 5. And those begin to expire in 2016! How
can we restore long-term increased stable funding for
our children's schools?
No great economy ever grew by disinvesting in education.-- Delaine Eastin, former State Superintendent of Public Instruction
- Investing in Early Childhood
Education: $1 invested in early education
saves $4 -$9 later. How can we increase accesss to high
quality, affordable, early learning?
Children who enter school with poor academic skills rarely catch up; performance in the early years of school is highly predictive of achievement much later.
-- Deborah Stipek, Judy Koch Professor of Education, Stanford
- Childhood Hunger in Santa
Clara County:
1 out of every 3
children in Santa Clara County goes to bed hungry every
night. How can we address this dilemma, in the heart of
one of the wealthiest areas in the entire country?
One out of three children in Silicon Valley suffers from hunger.-- Second Harvest Food Bank
