Opportunities For Creativity - AND Reward!

Is your child looking for an outlet for their 'creative side'?  I noted two great opportunities in the paper over the past few weeks.  Both of these were in the Sunnyvale Sun.

For Cupertino Residents (or students attending a school in Cupertino):

From Matt Wilson of the Sun, "Cupertino poet laureate David Denny is sponsoring the first citywide poetry contest."  The contest has three separate age categories:  18+, 13-17, and 6-12.  Participants can enter up to three unpublished poems to the contest. One hundred dollars will be awarded to the first place winner, with prizes of $50 and $25 respectively, for 2nd and 3rd place. Entries can be dropped off at the Cupertino City Hall, or mailed to, Cupertino Poet Laureate, Poetry Contest, 10300 Torre Ave., Cupertino, CA 95014.  Entry deadline is November 30, 2012.  If you enter - make sure to include: Name, age, mailing and email address, and phone number.  For more information:  poetlaureate@cupertino.org.

For Sunnyvale Residents (& other teens and college-age residents in the Bay Area):

Anti-littering Video Contest:  Create a 15-30 second video that discourages people from littering.  This contest has two age categories; 14-17 and 18-24.  First and second place winners will be awarded gift and cash prizes ($350 & $150).  The grand prize winner will receive a cash prize ($1,000) and TV distribution of their video.  Deadline for this contest is January 7, 2013.  For more information:  bethestreet.org or email info@bethestreet.org.
