The Marin Symphony, in partnership with the National Young Composers Challenge is presenting the National Young Composers Workshop on Saturday, October 5 and Composium on Sunday, October 6.
Workshop
The full-day composition workshop is free to any young musician between the ages of 13 and 18. No prior composition experience is necessary. The workshop will take place at San Domenico School in San Anselmo.
Workshop lecturers are nationally-renowned composers and musicians. Topics covered will include principles of composition, orchestration, scoring, and music notation software. Live demonstrations of all principal orchestra instruments will be given, with an emphasis on ensemble voicing and orchestration techniques. Workshop attendees are encouraged to attend the Composium on the following day.

Composium
What is a composium? It's like a concert, plus a master class, plus a competition. It's informative, dramatic, and entirely thrilling. This is an event not to be missed.
Witness an amazing afternoon of excitement, drama, and music. Hear the winning compositions by America’s best young composers rehearsed, discussed, and performed by the Marin Symphony at the Marin Veterans Memorial Auditorium in San Rafael, CA.
