I get asked this daily. Here are some tips. Michelle McIntyre
Q: Wow, I only have 4 board members. How am I supposed to get more board people and how can I get them to meetings? My Bylaws say I'm supposed to have more than 4 at a board meeting.
A: Here are the three minimum: President; Secretary; and Treasurer. Add a vice president and that's four. Did you know that the Principal and Teacher Representative are board members? That is six. Did you know that standing committee Chairs are board members and can attend meetings? If you have someone Chairing Membership, that's a board member. A standing committee is one that works the entire year. Additionally, the President can appoint a Parliamentarian who can help with bylaws and an election when needed. That's another person.
Here's an example:
- President
- Treasurer
- Secretary
- Principal
- Teacher Rep.
- Standing Committee Chair, eg Membership or Volunteers
- Parliamentarian
Consider adding vice presidents as well, e.g. one that handles Programs or Fund-raising.
